Lactation Management and Counseling

Our provider uses her 10 years of experience as an SLP specializing in pediatric feeding disorders and her Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (CBS) certification in order to facilitate an optimal, holistic breastfeeding experience for families.

We also believe that collaboration is key to holistic care! At Ladybug, we work in collaboration with you and/or your child’s care providers to meet the individual needs of our patients.

We support:
-Premature infants
-Infants with craniofacial anomalies
-Infants with swallowing disorders (Dysphagia)
-Infants experiencing breast refusal
-Infants experiencing bottle refusal/aversion
-Problems with latching/positioning at breast
-Infants with tongue/lip tie concerns (tethered oral tissues)
-Infants with oral/motor swallowing difficulties
-Infants with craniofacial anomalies

Signs/symptoms baby may need intervention by a feeding therapist
-Milk dribbling from mouth while eating
-Coughing choking during feedings
-Frequent spit-up/reflux
-Arching/pulling away from breast/bottle
-Poor weight gain
-Feedings that are too long
-Feedings that are too short

Signs/symptoms mom may benefit from seeing lactation specialist
-Breastfeeding mothers/parents that may have questions about lactation and would like to educate themselves during pregnancy
-Breastfeeding mothers/parents that want information on optimal feeding positions, latch, frequency, and duration of feedings, and parameters for infant output (wet/dirty diapers)
-Breastfeeding mothers/parents that would like an assessment on effective feeding and milk transfer in uncomplicated breastfeeding situations
-Breastfeeding mothers/parents who would like counseling regarding selection of a breast pump and maintaining milk supply and breastmilk storage
-Breastfeeding mothers/parents with pain while breastfeeding possibly due to shallow latch from baby
